Nathanael prayed that he might know whether or not the One announced by John the Baptist as the Messiah was indeed the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world. While he was laying his perplexities before God and asking for light, Philip called him, and in earnest, joyful tones exclaimed: “We have found Him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” John 1:45. {6T 37.3}

Natanael ønskede at få at vide om ham, Johannes Døber kaldte Messias, i virkeligheden var Guds Lam, der bærer alverdens synd. Medens han lagde sine bekymringer for Gud og bad om lys, kaldte Fillip ham og i virkelig glade toner udbrød: »Ham, som Moses i loven og ligeså profeterne har skrevet om, ham har vi fundet, Jesus, Josefs søn, fra Nazaret.« Joh.1,45
