"But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing." If you feel that you lack wisdom in this, plead the promise of God. He says, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering." Come to God with all your needs. Don't go to others with your trials and temptations; God alone can help you. If you fulfill the conditions of God's promises, the promises will be fulfilled to you. If your mind is stayed upon God, you will not go from a state of ecstasy to the valley of despondency when trial and temptation come upon you. You will not talk doubt and gloom to others. You will not say, "I do not know about this or that. I do not feel happy. I am not sure that we have the truth." You will not do this, for you will have an anchor to the soul both sure and steadfast. When we talk discouragement and gloom, Satan listens with fiendish joy; for it pleases him to know that he has brought you into his bondage. Satan cannot read our thoughts, but he can see our actions, hear our words; and from his long knowledge of human family, he can shape his temptations to take advantage of our weak points of character. And how often do we let him into the secret of how he may obtain the victory over us. O that we might control our words and actions! How strong we would become if our words were of such an order that we would not be ashamed to meet the record of them in the day of judgment. How different will they appear in the day of God from what they seem when we utter them.

Udholdenhed skal føre til fuldkommen gerning, så I kan være fuldkomne og helstøbte og ikke stå tilbage i noget. Hvis du føler at du mangler visdom i dette, så bed om Guds løfter. Han siger: Men hvis nogen af jer står tilbage i visdom, da skal han bede om at få den fra Gud, der giver alle gavmildt og uden bebrejdelser, og så vil den blive ham givet. Men han skal bede i tro, uden at tvivle. Kom til Gud med alle jeres behov. Gå ikke til andre med dine trængsler og fristelser; Gud alene kan hjælpe dig. Hvis du opfylder betingelserne i Guds løfter, vil løfterne opfyldes i jer. Hvis jeres tanker forbliver ved Gud, vil du ikke gå fra henrykkelse til modløshedens dal hvor prøvelser og fristelser kommer over dig. Du vil ikke tale tvivl og tungsind til andre. Du vil ikke sige: ”Jeg ved ikke noget om dette er hint. Jeg føler mig ikke lykkelig. Jeg er ikke sikker på at vi har sandheden.” Dette vil du ikke gøre, for du vil have sjælen forankret sikkert og urokkeligt. Når vor tale lyder modløs og trist, lytter Satan med djævelsk glæde, for han glæder sig over at vide, at han har fået os i sin trældom. Satan kan ikke læse vore tanker, men han kan se vore handlinger og høre, hvad vi siger og ud fra sit lange kendskab til menneskeslægten kan han indrette sine fristelser på at drage fordel af de svage punkter i vor karakter. Og hvor tit røber vi ikke for ham, hvordan han kan vinde sejr over os! O om vi måtte kontrollere vore ord og handlinger! Hvor stærke vil vi ikke blive hvis vore ord var af en sådan orden, at vi ikke skammer os over at se det nedskrevet på dommens dag. Hvor anderledes vil de se ud på Guds dag, fra hvad de virker til når vi siger dem.
